How it started

Three generations at the same counter

Victor Sr. opened the door on West Capital Avenue in the spring of 1984 with his mother’s recipes, one cast-iron skillet, and a hand-painted sign. His son, Victor Jr., kept the kitchen and the counter for the next generation. Today Victor III runs the place the way his grandfather did — oxtails braised until they give up, black-eyed peas slow-cooked with smoked turkey, cornbread straight from the skillet, and family service at the counter. What’s new is the tools: the voice that answers the phone and takes your order is his AI assistant, trained the family way, and it answers to the family name.
